The President of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Dr. Lawal Umar, FNLA, alongside members of the National Executive Council and key stakeholders in the library profession, today, Tuesday, 5th May 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmed.
During the visit, the President warmly congratulated the Honourable Minister on her appointment and commended her contributions to the education sector. He also used the opportunity to highlight the critical role of libraries in national development, emphasizing the need for functional and well-supported libraries across all levels of the educational system.
Discussions also covered other key issues affecting library and information services in Nigeria. The President formally presented an invitation to the Minister to attend the forthcoming 64th Annual National Conference of the Association scheduled to hold in Minna. A commemorative plaque was also presented as a token of appreciation and goodwill.
In her response, the Honourable Minister expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the importance of libraries in strengthening the education system, assuring the delegation of her willingness to engage further on areas of mutual interest.
The delegation included the Vice President of the Association, Dr. Juliet Alex-Nnmecha; Registrar of the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Ambassador Ja’afaru A. Wase; the Chairperson of the Association of University Librarians of Nigerian Universities (AULNU), Prof. Angela Okpala; Prof. Ahmed Balarabe; the Chairperson of the Kano State Chapter of the NLA, Nazir Muhammed, and the Administrative Secretary of the Association, Dr Omoh Atsenokhai.
