The Nigerian Library Association (NLA) on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Niger State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana Yunusa, in Minna as part of ongoing preparations for the 64th Annual National Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to hold from 12th–17th July 2026 in Niger State.
The delegation was led by the NLA President, Dr. Lawal Umar, FNLA, who formally informed the Niger State Government of the Association’s decision to host the 2026 national conference in the state and solicited the government’s support toward ensuring a successful and memorable event.
Dr. Umar described the hosting of the conference as a unique opportunity for Niger State to showcase its hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and economic potential to thousands of participants expected from across Nigeria and beyond. He noted that the conference would attract librarians, information professionals, academics, policymakers, and key stakeholders in the knowledge sector, thereby boosting tourism and stimulating local businesses.
“The hosting right also presents an opportunity to further demonstrate that Niger State is peaceful, welcoming, and secure,” the NLA President added.
Members of the NLA delegation included Dr. Amogu Uma Kalu (National Secretary); Dr. Fatima Abduldayan (National Treasurer); Dr. Ngozi Osuchukwu (National Financial Secretary); Mr. Sylvester Ebhonu (National Public Relations Officer); Pastor Dominic Omokaro (Immediate Past President); Dr. Omoh Atsenokhai (NLA Administrative Secretary); Dr. Musa Baba Adamu (Chairman, NLA Niger State Chapter and LOC Chairman), alongside other members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the NLA Niger State Chapter.
In his response, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana Yunusa, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Library Association for selecting Niger State as host of the 2026 national conference. He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to the promotion of libraries, information access, and knowledge development.
“This event is important to the state, and all necessary support will be provided to ensure a smooth, successful, and impactful conference,” the Commissioner assured.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Baba Uthman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, and Mr. Ibrahim Abubakar, Director of Information in the ministry.
